Beyond 236 (in 2006)

1. Victoria School
2. Chung Cheng High School (Main)
3. St Joseph's Institution
...

All the other choices were wrong. Utterly wrong. There is no reason why they should be there.

Chung Cheng has left me, or rather, I'd left Chung Cheng with a sense of achievement, one which convinces me all the other were such incorrect choices.

VS and SJI... inconceivable. I'm still unable to account reasonably for their presence in my option form. I like neither VS nor SJI to be the place for me to study in.

It is now 2006, and that choice was made in 2001. In 2006, I made another choice: Temasek Junior College. This time, it's purely mine, and nobody else.

In a few days time, I'll know I'm officially in TJC. In two years time, I'll know whether I made the right choice.

In the meantime, I'd like to encourage myself and everyone else to hang on.

Figure: 236 can lead to two extremes with continuous variation: from 6 points for the O levels to being retained in secondary 4.

The story behind the entry:
In lower secondary, I was very good friends with this friend U. We both had the PSLE aggregate of 236. Eventually, we were streamed into different classes and lost contact with each other. In 2005, I took my O levels, while he was retained either that year or the next. He's still in Chung Cheng today. When I visited Chung Cheng on the eve of the eve of Chinese New Year 2006 (Friday), I saw him in line with a class, and I waved to him. It was then I realised that there was a great difference in the paths we took ever since we scored 236 for the PSLE and went to Chung Cheng. This in turn inspired me to create this entry. I wish him all the best for his O levels this year.

When it comes to genes, I can safely say that my parentage doesn't provide for a very intelligent family. Still, through sheer hard work and determination, my father is what he is today. My mother did not have that high of an education, and it is also through her willingness and adapt and learn new things that she is what she is today. How about me? I've worked hard, and now I need to continue working hard.

Juz wondering, would you consider being a motivational speaker? I'm seriously thinking of inviting you to share your road to success to my students to inspire them. Care to touch some lives? Do let me know so that I can make arrangements :)) It's always interesting to invite alumni back.
